Details:
- YOUR PHOTOS ON DISCS: Our service results in pairs of discs. Each pair holds about 1,000 photos duplicated exactly on both of two discs. Within each disc, each group of 80 to 140 slides is contained in its own sub-folder. Each disc and each sub folder has a 'text only' slide describing the content. Also, we label the front of each disc with a small black-and-white version of the first and last slide it contains, when we created it, and a short note about the content.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE - DISC VERIFICATION: Every photo on each disc we produce is verified against the version in our equipment to insure each image we provide is an exact copy without even one error. If notified within two months after shipping, we will correct discs containing mis-rotated photos at our expense if there are more than 5 mis-rotated images per 1000 images on the disc. We warrant our discs free of error or defect, if you find a disc to be defective we will replace damaged or defective discs returned to us here at your expense within 90 days after original shipment. The best approach for safekeeping is to create duplicates of the discs we send you or copy them to other storage such as a backed-up computer drive to ensure your equipment can read them and so further protect the content. You agree that in no event will Slidekeeper or Quiet Fountain LLC be liable for more than you paid us to convert your slides.
- GETTING PRINTS MADE FROM YOUR PHOTOS ON OUR DISCS: Our discs are compatible with print services at local photo printing stores. As we store every bit of photo information on your slides, it is usually the case that the paper used by photo printing services is not exactly the same shape as your slides. When prints are made from our photo files, you may be asked whether squish or stretch the image bit to make an exact fit on the paper size they have, or whether to allow some white space on one edge of their paper so as to get all the image without distortion, or whether to trim a bit from the image so the result is exactly the size of their print paper. Most computer based displays present the image as stored without changes.
- YOUR PHOTOS AS DIGITAL IMAGES: We store digital copies of the images on your slides, one slide per digital file, holding only that still image on a DVD readable by DVD-R reader equipped home computers and more recent movie DVD players. The digital file names lead with numbers corresponding to the 'slot number' the source slide occupied in the carousel. The result is not a movie, even though we use DVD's to store your photos and recently made movie DVD players can play them as a 'slideshow'. The digital photos are trimmed to square or rectangular shape depending on the size and content of the particular source image. They are stored in standard JPEG or .jpg format, averaging 3.3 megabytes per slide. The size and resolution of the images we create from your slides depends on the size of the source slide. The common slides such as 35mm x 23mm result in final photo files offering resolution of roughly 3200 dots per inch (dpi), or in other terms somewhere between 5 and 6 megapixels. Bigger slides, better resolution. Note: Technology exists that enables electronic photography artists to deliver better results by intensive work on each slide, usually for the purpose of making large prints and portraits. If you have such special needs, let us know.
- PHOTO ORGANIZATION ON THE DISC: Slidekeeper creates an 'information photo' at the top of each disc identifying the customer, job information and processing date. Here is a sample:

The disc contains 'file folders' or 'directories' corresponding one each for each group of 80 to 140 slides. Slidekeeper creates an 'information photo' at the top of each 'file folder' or 'directory' identifying anything we find particular to that group of slides (e.g.: 'Carousel 14: slides dated Oct 1956 to May 1957'), and also the job information and creation date. Here is a sample:
