Details:
- ALL SAFE SLIDE PACKAGING ACCEPTED: We accept slides packed for processing in any format safe for shipping. There are two opportunities to lower our costs and so our price to you. The first chance to save is by sending the slides pre-loaded in carousels as described below. Our standard service provides an electronic photographer who monitors the conversion process and does basic rotation correction and image enhancement. For the lowest price, explore our 'unsupervised processing' option. See our 'pricing' section for details.
- FOUR CENTS/SLIDE DISCOUNT FOR SLIDES SENT IN KODAKtm COMPATIBLE CAROUSELS: As our equipment running time is carousel based (whether full or with one or many unfilled and unused spaces) so are our costs and we pass the savings to you. Slide carousel capacity varies between 80 and 140: Whenever possible send us your slides pre-loaded in filled 140 slide capacity carousels to achieve the lowest per slide digital conversion cost.
- ROTATION: We return the slides to you in the manner we received them. If you order photographer supervised conversion, we will rotate them 'long way left and right' even if the image was taken 'long way up and down' for optimum image conversion quality (the digital images we deliver will all be re-rotated properly for the content).
- FRAGILE OR BENT SLIDES: We can't handle slides that are badly warped or otherwise so close to falling apart as they might damage our equipment or our equipment might damage them. If they are more or less smooth and straight, even if faded, chances are good we can manage it. Otherwise we might decide it is best not to risk damage and will return such carousels or slides to you unprocessed for a handling fee of $5 per carousel or group of 1 - 140 slides, plus taxes and shipping. Local commercial electronic artists are a better choice to handle at-risk images.
- SHIPPING: We accept reponsibility for the slides once they are received here, you choose such shipment organizations and insure against shipping loss and damage as you deem wise. We will refuse to accept any order that appears to have suffered damage during shipment. We will return your slides and our digital conversions insured against loss at the rate of $1 per slide rounded up to the nearer of 80 or 140 slides, unless you specify other insurance. We will add shipping to your bill at the cost we are charged.
- LOCATION: We process all slides in Scott County, Iowa, USA. Once recieved here your slides will not be transported to any other company or agency nor otherwise be relocated anywhere other than our facilities in Scott County, Iowa. The only exception arises for those specific slides for which you request the services of a commercial electronic photography artist, those cases are by arrangement. We understand competing services are sales shops that contract with others overseas to lower the cost of the actual processing. We don't.
- COPYRIGHT AND INDEMNIFICATION: The slides you are asking us to convert must be yours, that is to say you promise and represent that you have the legal right to have digital conversion done and rights to accept the converted digital images. If we see markings on the slides indicating they are copyrighted material, and the name on the order doesn't match the copyright holder indicated on the material we will ask for proof of digital conversion permission before proceeding to do the conversion. In any event, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless QuietFountain LLC, the Slidekeeper project, and all our staff and agents and assigns from any claims, including but not limited to intellectual property or other copyright infringement, that may arise at any time as a result of our converting the slides you provide us to digital format.
- DAMAGE, LOSS RISKS: You accept the risk that we might seriously damage, destroy or lose 1 slide per 1000. You accept compensation at the rate of no more than $1 per slide beyond 1 per 1000 in exchange for every further slide we damage, destroy or lose. We haven't lost or destroyed any yet, but anything that can happen will happen sooner or later so you should know the risks in advance. If you have concerns, limit your risk by sending a few thousand slides per order, waiting to send the next group until after you've received the previous order. If you have a small number of extremely precious slides, consider hiring a local commercial electronic artist to avoid all shipping and handling risk.
- PRIVACY and IMAGE STORAGE: We may, but are not required, to retain your images for no longer than the later of the end of the third month after we complete and ship your conversion order; or the end of the month following the month you cancel your access to password-protected internet publication of your slides on our service. We will not intentionally publish or disclose either your slides or the digital copies we create with the following exceptions: To our employees, agents, staff and such business service staff as might be present during the ordinary course of processing your slides; At our request with your explicit written permisson; At your request relative to password protected internet access to your photos; At the request of any U.S. federal, state or local police agency or to such agencies in cases of 'kiddie porn'; Through operation of law.
- PORNOGRAPHY DECLINED: While we welcome photos of all occasions and stages of personal, family and business life ('boudoir' and 'baby in the bathtub' is fine), we don't accept commercial or private pornography. Think movie ratings: 'G' 'PG' and 'R' and medical/historical documentary even if explicit are okay. If the content would be rated 'NC-17' or 'X' please don't send it. We will stop processing at the first instance of pornographic material our operators dectect in their and/or our opinion, billing normally for such part of the order as we processed. We will return all unprocessed material without examining its content, and charge for it according to the 'fragile/bent' rates noted above.
- PROCESSING ORDER: Unless directed otherwise, we process your slides sorted by carousel label or box/packet label - earliest date first, then lowest number first, then lowest letter first. If we are to handle loose slides, we keep the order of the slides we find in your packaging.
